Processing Stoppage at Soil Remediation Facility is Averted
May 15, 2017 — Contaminated soil transfer and remediation is a growing concern from both a public and environmental perspective. Licensed remediation service companies take on the responsibility of processing the soil effectively involving excavation, haulage, treatment and transfer. Considering the multitude of contaminants that are involved, remediation techniques can be very challenging. Combined with large volumes of water and the quick pace of processing there is little time for treatment failures.
JNE Environmental was contacted late one evening by a major environmental remediation company due to a processing failure that was resulted in the inability to discharge water. Existing chemical and polymer treatments to the slurry had failed to produce an effective sludge that would separate via the centrifuge. This created a backlog of material to process which threatened to halt the receiving of new material as well as discharge poorly treated water to the municipal system.
JNE Environmental provided two technical experts for after-hours emergency support within 1 hour to review the situation and develop a treatment strategy to address the unacceptable performance. Equipped with jar testing materials and a full range of JNE’s chemical products our technicians successfully separated the solids with a unique combination of JNE CS-50 pH correction, JNE 709 emulsion breaker and JNE 3003 flocculant. Product supply was shipped immediately and effective processing was resumed, allowing the facility to accept and process soil.
The newly formulated chemical treatment procedure was implemented on a full-time basis at the facility. This provided confidence to the company’s ownership and operational staff that JNE’s products and technical services are readily available anytime and that JNE Environmental has expertise to take the worry out their wastewater.
