Pilot plant sets pace for difficult wastewater treatment
One of JNE Environmental’s more challenging clients is a grease trap collection and organic waste processor. Prior to JNE Environmental’s involvement, the client struggled with developing a suitable wastewater treatment process, due to the constantly changing incoming wastewater. JNE Environmental and the client spent many months testing different formulations and dosages before finalizing the system design, by way of implementing a pilot plant to determine wastewater treatment effectiveness.
JNE Environmental installed two agitated reaction tanks and a control system, all designed to the client’s requirements. The separation of the floc was initially going to be performed by an existing clarifier. When the client’s existing clarifier proved not to be reliable, and due to the organic and variable nature of their waste, JNE proposed that the client would rent a JNE Environmental DAF pilot plant to evaluate the effectiveness of the DAF unit technology for their waste application.
Based on the results from the pilot plant, the client purchased two DAF units. They purchased a FS-60 for their facility in Toronto, Ontario and an FS-30 for their facility in Ottawa, Ontario. Both systems have been successfully commissioned and routinely achieve less that 50 mg/L TSS outgoing; a standard which can be deemed a success. JNE Environmental is very proud of the success of these units considering the variability and how difficult this waste is to treat. JNE Environmental looks forward to supporting the expansion of this company as they continue to grow across Canada.
