An exciting opportunity is available for a Control Systems Specialist to join our Automation team working out of our Hamilton, Ontario office.

The successful candidate will work on a team to provide technical and project support to our clients’ Operating and Maintenance departments relating to Control Systems, Instrumentation, and Safety Instrumented Systems.  The successful candidate will provide and apply scientific and technical knowledge to ensure the stability and continuous improvement of products, manufacturing processes, and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop/configure PLC programs and other automation devices (HMI, drives, switches, analyzers) as per design documents and functional descriptions
  • Control system panel design using Auto CAD
  • Apply approved specifications necessary to create a complete drawing package
  • Lead the installation, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of control systems
  • Specify equipment and perform design in Control Systems, Instrumentation and Safety Systems
  • Develop specifications and standards based on legislation, industry standards and plant requirements
  • Deliver projects in a safe manner, on time and within budget
  • Coordinate projects or execute designs with minimal guidance in a multi-discipline environment
  • Assess and report on emerging technologies to peers and customers

Job Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and presentation skills
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of Control Systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, PAC, drives), Instrumentation/Combustion, and Safety Systems
  • Intermediate programming and software development skills with multiple PLCs, including Rockwell and Siemens
  • Knowledge of combustion safety systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory
  • Application of Control Systems and Instrumentation in Manufacturing Process Technology
  • Knowledge of regulatory codes, standards and specifications
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced skills in instrumentation design
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Qualifications, Skills, and Education

  • 3+ years related industry experience
  • Related University/College diploma required

Strong Assets

  • Design and commissioning experience with variable speed AC and DC drives
  • Advanced knowledge of industrial networking and Operational Technology (OT) including security
  • SQL database experience
  • TÜV Rheinland
  • Certified Automation Professional (CAP)
