An exciting opportunity is available for an PLC Programmer to join our Automation Team working out of our Hamilton, ON office.

The successful candidate will provide technical and project leadership in the areas of Control Systems, Instrumentation, and Safety Instrumented Systems. Working as part of a multi-discipline team, they will be responsible for control system design, programming, equipment specification, drawing development and review, and project execution from design through installation, commissioning, and start-up. The role will also provide engineering oversight and support to ensure control system designs meet applicable specifications, standards, legislation, and plant requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and configure PLC programs and other automation devices, including HMIs, drives, switches, and analyzers, in accordance with design documents and functional descriptions
  • Develop control system panel designs and drawings using AutoCAD
  • Apply approved specifications and standards to produce complete control system drawing packages
  • Review and stamp control system drawings in accordance with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) requirements as an Ontario-licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
  • Lead the installation, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of control systems
  • Specify equipment and perform control system, instrumentation, and safety system design
  • Develop specifications and standards in accordance with applicable legislation, industry standards, and plant requirements
  • Deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget
  • Coordinate projects and execute designs with minimal guidance in a multi-discipline environment
  • Assess emerging technologies and provide recommendations to peers and customers

Job Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and presentation skills
  • Expert level knowledge and understanding of Control Systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, drives), Instrumentation/Combustion, and Safety Systems
  • Expert level programming and software development skills with multiple PLCs, including Rockwell and Siemens
  • Knowledge of combustion safety systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory
  • Knowledge of regulatory codes, standards, and specifications
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced skills in instrumentation design
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 10+ years related industry experience
  • Related University/College degree/diploma required
  • Ontario P. Eng. license required

Strong Assets

  • Design and commissioning experience with variable speed AC and DC drives
  • Advanced knowledge of industrial networking and Operational Technology (OT) including security
  • SQL database experience
  • TÜV Rheinland
