Pipe Expansion Loop Design

Pipe Expansion Loop Design Published January 2023 Keywords Expansion Loops Piping Flexibility Stress Compensation Summary The purpose of this file is to illustrate quick sizing of the expansion loops. Pipe expands when heated and contracts when cooled. When a pipe allowed to move (unrestrained), it is free to expand or contract without generating thermal stresses. Once the pipe is restrained at the ends (by anchors or equipment nozzles), thermal stresses can be generated. These stresses are a result of a system’s lack of flexibility and ability to compensate for thermal expansion or contraction. Expansion compensation in the form of expansion loops, 90° elbows and z-bends are a simple, low cost and low maintenance design elements that can be used to increase system flexibility and decrease pipe stresses. These arrangements can be observer in Figure 1. Hints 90° changes in piping direction are the most efficient design to absorb thermal expansion/contraction. Utilize any natural flexibility of the piping system (any lateral offsets, changes of direction). Use strategic location for the pipe supports to avoid over restriction of the system. Share [...]

Fixing an ineffective system and enhancing treatment capabilities

A local food ingredient manufacturer was having difficulty in getting their wastewater treatment system operating efficiently and was not receiving adequate service from their existing chemical and equipment supplier JNE recommended a retrofit of their DAF pump onto the client's existing DAF unit, and developed a more cost effective chemical formulation using our custom chemical solutions.

Pilot plant sets pace for difficult wastewater treatment

One of JNE Environmental’s more challenging clients is a grease trap collection and organic waste processor. Prior to JNE Environmental’s involvement, the client struggled with developing a suitable wastewater treatment process, due to the constantly changing incoming wastewater. JNE Environmental and the client spent many months testing different formulations and dosages before finalizing the system design.

System redesign achieves sewer bylaw compliance

A local food producer was struggling with high levels of phosphate in their wastewater until they commissioned a system redesign by JNE Environmental. JNE spent almost a month custom developing a new product, JNE 2020, which works in conjunction with products JNE 281 and JNE 3003, and is capable of consistently meeting the city sewer bylaw for phosphate discharge.

JNE’s Inaugural Movember Challenge

Our team at JNE set out to raise awareness about some of the biggest health issues faced by men, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention by growing our moustaches throughout the month of November. Through this initiative we have learned more about each other, sharing stories and experiences, and we are stronger for it.
