JNE was one member of a three-party consortium contracted to provide a turnkey upgrade of a major steel manufacturer’s 4-Stand Tandem Cold Mill. JNE was responsible for the construction engineering, construction management and field installation of all the equipment from the primary supplier.

The scope of work included the installation of all new entry and exit end equipment, interstand equipment, roll force cylinders, hydraulic systems, off-line inspection equipment, mill drives, controls, instrumentation and automation systems. Also included in the scope was the demolition of the existing equipment and equipment foundations as well as the appropriate rework to accommodate the new equipment. The overall project duration was 24 months and required 7 plant shutdowns to facilitate the required stages of installation.

JNE’s responsibilities with respect to the implementation of this program included construction engineering, construction/installation work, construction management, scheduling, material handling, document control, subtrade coordination, change management and cost control.
