Drive Systems Panels Upgrade
New Drives and Control System
A metals engineering and OEM entity was given a contract to provide a new drives and control system to a large steel manufacturing facility in Hamilton, ON. JNE Automation was awarded the contract by the Engineering and OEM entity to provide all of the drive system panels consisting of Siemens SINAMICS DCM DC CONVERTER / FOUR-QUADRANT DRIVES equipment ranging from 30 hp to 1,000 hp. The Engineering and OEM entity provided the electrical schematics and drives to JNE.
JNE’s scope of work included:
- Panel design and layouts
- Sizing and procuring
- AC and DC breakers
- DC output contractors
- Line reactors for armature and field
- Miscellaneous control devices
- Assembly of the drive panels
JNE Automation staged all of the drive panels individually at the panel shop for testing by the client. The testing consisted of powering the drives and connecting to a 30 hp DC motor to verify the power circuit, encoder communication, speed control, and communication to the master control. Once this had been accepted, the client had the end user witness the test and agreed to accept the drive for shipment and installation.
In total there were:
- 38 drives assembled
- 35 drive panels completed
